Percentage Change Calculator
Find the percent increase or decrease from one value to another.
Percentage change formula
change% = (new − old) ÷ |old| × 100. A positive result is an increase, a negative result a decrease.
Worked example
From 80 to 100: (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% increase. From 100 to 80: (80 − 100) ÷ 100 × 100 = −20% (a decrease).
FAQ
Why isn't a 25% rise cancelled by a 25% fall?
Because each percentage is taken from a different base. A 25% rise then a 25% fall leaves you below where you started.
