Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, the grand total and each person's share when splitting a bill.
How a tip is calculated
The tip is a percentage of the bill; the total adds it on; the per-person share divides the total by the number of people:
tip = bill × (percent ÷ 100)
total = bill + tip · each = total ÷ people
Worked example
A $60 bill at 18% gives a $10.80 tip and a $70.80 total. Split between 2 people that's $35.40 each.
| Service | Typical tip |
|---|---|
| Counter / quick service | 0–10% |
| Standard sit-down | 15–18% |
| Great service | 20%+ |

Customarily on the pre-tax bill, but tipping on the total is also common and only a small difference.
What if service charge is already included?
